Happy Earth Day!
It always seems fitting that Earth Day is in the spring. Celebrating and cleaning up our planet as plants sprout, flowers bloom, and trees bud is the perfect way to honor the renewal of the season.
We're coming to you this Earth Day with an update on our recycling program, which is a little over two years old. During this time, many customers have participated by bringing us their gently used handled paper bags. These high quality shopping bags can be reused many times, but are often only used once before being recycled. We reuse these bags for customer purchases to help reduce our carbon footprint.
In the past two years, we've saved:
- About 3,400 paper bags from being produced and purchased new
(about 1,700 per year) - Almost 500 pounds of paper and cardboard
(about 250 pounds per year)
Our paper bags come to us from Nashville, TN. Not only have we saved the energy and materials from producing the bags, but also the energy from shipping them to us, and the many large cardboard boxes that they ship in.
Thank you so much to everyone who has participated in the program! We will be continuing it indefinitely. If you are interested in participating in the future, all you need to do is collect and bring us your gently used handled paper bags and we will extend their life. It's been especially fun seeing bags that we've already used a few times continue to be returned to us for reuse.
